You asked, and we answered! To help you make the most of Freckle during school closures, we’ve collected the most common questions we hear from teachers. If you have questions that are not addressed below, feel free to explore the Freckle Support Center!
1. I was told I have access to the full premium version of Freckle. How do I get upgraded?
If your school or district has purchased a subscription to Freckle Premium, your teacher account will automatically be upgraded to full access. All you will need to do is make sure your account is configured to your school.
For detailed instructions on how to update your school from your teacher dashboard, watch this short video.
Note: During school closures due to COVID-19, we have temporarily removed assignment limits from all free Freckle accounts until June 30, 2020. Free Freckle users will still be on the free version, not the premium version, but assignments will be unlimited through June 30.
2. Why can't I view certain aspects of the platform on my phone?
At this time, Freckle is not available on mobile devices. We're currently working on developing mobile-friendly student practice, which will be available for your students later this year. In the meantime, you can see our list of supported devices and browsers here.
3. How do I communicate with my students directly through the platform?
Freckle does not have an option to message students through the platform. Teachers can create assignments and view student performance, but not communicate directly with students. However, Freckle does integrate with Google Classroom, which many teachers use for communicating with students.
4. How do I view my students’ pretest results and create assignments?
You can view student pretest results from the Math or ELA Levels Report. For Math, select Math, then Reports, then Math Levels. For ELA, select ELA, then Reports, then ELA Levels.
You can create assignments from the Assignments page on your teacher dashboard. Click the blue Add an Assignment button, and you'll be able to choose your subject and then assignment type.
5. How do I assign a Math or ELA pretest?
Good news: you do not need to assign pretests! Students will automatically begin with a pretest when they first attempt to complete math or reading practice.
However, if you would like to create an assignment for your students to begin with, you may. Creating these assignments will prompt students to complete their pretest before completing the actual assignment.
Create an assignment by clicking Add an Assignment on your Assignments page. We recommend starting by assigning Adaptive Math or Articles & Stories.
6. How do I view the data for my assignments?
To view data for assignments, select the Assignments tab on your teacher dashboard and then select the appropriate class and subject. You will see a list of your recent assignments for that class, and you can toggle between complete and incomplete assignments.
You can click the dropdown arrow beside a particular assignment to see which students have completed the assignment, how long each student spent on it, and individual scores for each student.
7. Why is my students' activity not displaying on the Activity Feed?
If you aren’t seeing your students’ activity in the Activity Feed, double-check your filters within the Activity Feed to ensure you have the correct Class, Time Period, and Subject(s) selected.
Please note that some activities must be completed in full before they populate on the Activity Feed. Encourage your students to complete their practice sessions in full so that their data populates accordingly!
8. How can I prevent students from stealing each other's coins?
If you have noticed an issue with students logging into each other’s accounts and spending coins, you can set passwords for your students. Go to the Roster page, select Class Options, and you will see the option to Set Password Protection.
If needed, you can edit students’ individual coin totals directly from your Roster page through the settings for individual students. This short video will show you how to update the coin balance.
9. How can I reset or change a student's Math or ELA level?
Some of your students may have been having a tough day when they completed their pretests, and you know their pretest score is not reflective of their true level. You can reset or change a student's level right from your teacher dashboard by using the Math Levels Report or the ELA Levels Report.
For more details, this video will walk you through how to reset a pretest.
