1-2-3 Reasons to Love Number Basics (1)

Your K-2 students now have access to a brand-new practice mode in Freckle: Number Basics!

Number Basics will help you build the foundations that younger students need before they move along to addition and subtraction. Click on the video below to see Number Basics in action.

A walkthrough of Number Basics

There are five levels of skills represented in Number Basics:

  • Number recognition
  • Identifying how many items are in a group
  • Counting
  • Recognizing which numbers are bigger and smaller
  • Number patterns

Each level contains progressively more challenging skills for students to practice.

Here are three reasons you'll love using Number Basics with your K-1 students!

1. It provides a solid foundation for Math skills

We believe that one of the keys to narrowing the achievement gap among students is starting differentiation early.

To help students succeed in Math, it’s crucial to provide them with the knowledge and skills that they will build on in later grades.

For students who need to practice recognizing numbers and counting before they're ready to move on to addition and subtraction, Number Basics will help fill in the gaps so they're ready to succeed!

2. It's designed with the youngest students in mind

Number Basics can be found in the Math section of the K-2 Freckle student dashboard. While it's geared toward K-1 skills, it's also available for 2nd grade students to practice.

The bold, kid-friendly screens with large buttons and colorful pictures will make it easy for younger students to use the product, even if they haven’t had much practice using computers yet. Students will receive immediate feedback letting them know whether they got the answer right or they should try again.

Each question is accompanied by an audio play-along, so students’ progress isn’t limited by their reading level.

3. There's room to grow at every level

Students will move through the different levels in Number Basics at their own pace. Just like Freckle's other practice modes, the program will automatically gauge whether or not students are ready to move along to the next level, so they're always getting an appropriate challenge.

For students who already know their number basics and are ready to move on to operations, the sky is the limit with Freckle! K-2 students still have access to the other math practice modes in the Freckle student dashboard. Number Facts introduces addition and subtraction, and Math Practice allows students to progress at their own pace through pathways in each math domain.

We hope Number Basics will make it easier for you to reach your youngest students at their own level and build a strong foundation of knowledge in Math!
