Freckle Summit: Everything you need to know!

The Freckle Summer Summit is less than one week away!

Below is everything you need to know for your trip, regarding transportation, logistics, what to bring & wear, and more.

Day 1: Freckle Trainings on Friday, July 13th

Q: Where are the Friday Trainings happening?

A: The venue is the Golden Gate Club (135 Fisher Loop, San Francisco). It is located in the middle of the Presidio, a historic national park; you'll love the drive! We strongly recommend using Google Maps to navigate there.

 

Q: How do I get to the Friday trainings venue?

A: Great question! You can get to the venue by public transportation, taxi/Uber/Lyft, or driving yourself. 

There are also a limited number of seats on our Freckle bus transporting guests to/from the Official Summit Hotel (The Park Central) and the Golden Gate Club. 

Note: We are currently booked up. Only attendees who received an email from Freckle Summit Staff on Saturday, July 7th have a confirmed spot on the bus. The seats were first-come, first-serve to guests who filled out our Food & Travel survey last month.

Q: Will there be parking available?

A: Yup, and $8 will cover you for the whole day! The parking lot is located immediately beside the venue.

 

Q: What time should I arrive by?

A: Doors open at 8:15am. Please arrive by 8:40 at the LATEST. We want to make sure everyone gets checked in and settled in before our "Welcome from the CEO" at 9:00am sharp!

 

Q: What should I bring to Friday's trainings?

A: Please bring a device (e.g., laptop, Chromebook, tablet... your choice). All sessions will be very interactive and hands-on. Also, bring your smile! :). 

 

Q: Do you have a detailed agenda for the day?

A: Yup! You can view it hereAll sessions will be hands-on and focused on our theme: Making Differentiation a Reality! There will be sessions for all teachers of different grade levels and Freckle experience levels. 

Don't worry about printing it; you'll receive a copy when you arrive on Friday!

 

Q: What should I wear?

A: Whatever you're most comfortable in! The Freckle Team will be dressed casually (jeans + Freckle t-shirt). 

On this note... if you own a hot pink Freckle t-shirt, we kindly request you do NOT wear it for Friday's trainings. Kind of a strange request, I know! This is because we want our Freckle team members and presenters to be easily visible in case any attendees have questions. If you do wear your shirt, no worries at all - just be prepared to be approached with random questions from fellow Summit attendees :-).

 

Q: Any suggestions of activities my family can do while I'm in Freckle trainings all day?

A: The Freckle Team has put together a blog post of our "Top 10 Things To Do in SF". On top of that, we've also included a "Guide to SF" document with an even longer list of our Freckle Favorites!

 

Q: Am I required to attend any activities following the Friday trainings ending at 3:15pm?

A: Nope! You'll have the whole evening off to hang out with your family (if they're joining you in San Francisco). If you traveled to the Summit alone, we're certain you'll meet new friends during the Friday trainings who you can explore the city with!

Day 2: Optional Outing Activities on Saturday, July 14th

Q: Is transportation provided?

A: You'll be on your own for Saturday's transportation. We'll meet you at the meeting spot listed on the Saturday Outings document. You can view that list here.

We're more than happy to provide tips for transportation. In fact, you'll be meeting your Saturday Outing leader during Friday's lunch, and you can ask any questions then!

 

Q: Do I need to RSVP for an activity?

A: That will help us plan our staff accordingly (all Outings will be led by Freckle Team volunteers!). You can RSVP here if you haven't done so already. Please note the form closes on Tuesday, July 10th.

 

Q: Is my family allowed to come? Is there an extra cost?

A: Yes, we would LOVE for your families to join us! They are invited to join at zero additional cost. However, please make sure to RSVP here so we can get an accurate idea of headcount.

 

Q: Will food be provided at the Saturday Outings?

A: Full meals will not be provided for Saturday's activities. Your Outing leader will bring some very light snacks to share. We suggest eating breakfast beforehand.

You are, however, more than welcome to purchase your own food (or souvenir!) items during the Saturday Outings. We'll make sure we make frequent stops with enough time at each so you can do some shopping ;).

 

Q: I already RSVPed for a Saturday Outing but I changed my mind and want to attend another one. Is that OK?

A: It is totally OK! But we would appreciate if you could email michelle@freckle.com to let us know!

 

Q: What time will the Saturday outings end?

A: All Outings will end by early afternoon. You can view timing details of your specific outing here.

 

Miscellaneous questions

Q: Do you have any tips for packing?

A: YES, I'm glad you asked! Summer in San Francisco is not as hot as you might think. Please bring warm layers (a jacket, sweater, etc.). Also, if you're joining us for an optional Saturday  Outing, please bring comfortable shoes for walking.

 

Q: Any tips for getting from the airport to the Official Summit Hotel (The Park Central @ 50 3rd Street)?

A: You have a few options, depending on your budget:

Take a taxi/Lyft/Uber: It should be a 20-30 minute drive (estimated cost*: $50 if you ride alone, or $20 if you get a Lyft Line/Uber Pool).

Take the train (called the BART): It leaves right from San Francisco International Airport (and from Oakland Airport, for that matter) and takes you to downtown San Francisco. Get off at Powell Street Station, then walk 4 minutes to the hotel. 

The train ride should only take 30-40 minutes (estimated cost*: $9.65). Here's more information about BART.

Walk: Just kidding.

 

Q: When can I check into my hotel (the Park Central Hotel)?

A: Check-in is at 3pm. If you need to arrive earlier, you can drops off your bags at the front desk. If rooms are available, they may let you check in a bit early but no promises!

 

Q: What if I get lost on the way to the Friday trainings? 😭

A: Well, if you're already think about this question, I hope you'll take a moment to preview directions on Google Maps! ;)
